Small scales. Big questions.

Our own research, the papers and books that record it, and the instruments we have built. Every item is labelled for what it is: published, preprint, in progress, or an open question.

Mesoscopic Time Group · led by Prof. P. Singha Deo

Can a signal arrive before it is sent?

Inside a small enough quantum device, interference can make the time an electron takes to cross come out negative. The group has published a paper titled “Transmitting a signal in negative time”, and two books on the route from there to time travel.

The open question. The authors interpret negative local partial density of states in terms of negative time. Direct experimental tests of that interpretation, and broader time-travel claims, remain open. We welcome alternative explanations and independent scrutiny.

Theory and simulation

When boundaries change everything.

Non-Hermitian quantum systems reveal unusual relationships between motion, localization and topology. We study SSH and AAH chains through analytical and computational models: skin effects, quasiperiodicity, spectral topology and quantum thermodynamics.

Quantum AI · on the bench and on the desk

Building qubits. Building AI.

Superconducting qubits made and measured in the lab, and AI systems built and used every day. Play with a qubit, compare a transmon with a fluxonium, and read where both fields are heading. Laboratory findings are shared after publication and the relevant approvals.

A model of the universe.

A joint exploration of how the universe is modelled: the big bang, curved spacetime, and what time really is. It is at an early stage: two working sketches, two prototype notebooks and a live picture of expansion.

In the lab

Where the cold work happens.

Souvik’s experimental work is on superconducting circuits, measured inside refrigerators that run close to absolute zero. These pictures are from the laboratory in Taiwan where he works.

  • Souvik Ghosh beside an open dilution refrigerator: gold-plated plates stacked one below another, hung with wiring and copper parts.
A dilution refrigerator, opened for wiring. Each plate runs colder than the one above it. The opening of this site is modelled on a machine like this.
  • Four seconds at the cold end, and a shield going on. A silent clip from a Master Within reel.
  • Close-up of a gold-plated sample holder with fine red copper wires looped into a small multi-pin connector.
Wiring a sample holder by hand: fine enamelled wire into a connector smaller than a fingernail.
  • A gloved hand holding a small gold-plated sample holder with two threaded connectors and loose fine wires.
The finished holder, before it goes into the cold.

Vishwa Vigyan does not own or operate this laboratory. The pictures show equipment only; results stay unpublished until the papers are out.
